The new Starship Series tower speakers
Left to right, the Starship SE, the Starship, the Windjammer, The Enterprise SE and the Enterprise.
Our new Starship tower series feature a number of new design elements including a new narrow flange version of the woven carbon fiber woofer we have used since the early 1990s; driver covers to reduce diffraction around the drivers; new magnetic grills throughout; new metal outriggers on the Enterprise and Starship; and breakout proprietary four transmission lines design and a point source five driver arrangement in the Starship and Starship SE.
We combine these new features with our well established design principles. We use transmission lines; two-way, time aligned driver arrangements; minimalist, minimum phase, first order crossovers; and a combination of a soft dome tweeter and woven carbon fiber woofers in all the loudspeakers. And we manufacture all the loudspeakers with formaldehyde-free lumber, non-toxic adhesives, and non-toxic paints.
For all the loudspeakers, we use the new narrow flange woven carbon fiber driver, not only because of its performance characteristics, but because it allows us to execute our design goals to reduce the width of the Windjammer's baffle, to create a point source driver array for the Starship, and to use driver covers and magnetic grills throughout.
Our design of the Windjammer features a new 5 inch wide baffle, down from 5.5 inches, to enhance its already stellar imaging and soundstaging. The new design is a throw back to an earlier version of the Windjammer that used a 5 inch wide baffle. The new design also features a driver cover to reduce diffraction around the drivers and to facilitate the use of a magnetic grill to cover the drivers. The magnetic grill can be removed independently of a clip on grill that covers the lower baffle including the transmission line vent. We support the cabinet with a one inch thick plinth that accommodates 1/4-20 threaded spikes
(The new two-piece full length grill provide an option to uncover the drivers for critical listening while keeping the transmission line vents covered. The design is inspired by a customer who told us his toddler stored his small toys in the vents of one of our loudspeakers when the previous one piece grill was removed.)
We offer the Enterprise in two models: the Enterprise and the Enterprise SE. In the Enterprise, which is derived from the previous Enterprise XB, we vent the dual transmission lines through the bottom of the cabinet to produce more prodigious bass output. We outfit the cabinet with outriggers to create a small, stable footprint and to maintain clearance between the TL vents and the floor. We cover the drivers with a driver cover which accepts a new magnetic grill. If you appreciate superb, prodigious bass you are going to love the Enterprise.
The Enterprise SE is an evolution of the much reviewed and critically acclaimed front baffle vented Enterprise. In the Enterprise SE, we continue to vent the transmission lines through the front baffle to reduce bass interaction with the room and to allow near wall placement. We cover the drivers with a driver cover and the baffle with dual grills: a clip on grill covers the lower part of the baffle and a magnetic grill covers the drivers. Internally, we match all components to a higher degree. We support the cabinet with a one inch thick plinth that accommodates 1/4-20 threaded spikes
We offer the new Starship in both a standard and a deluxe SE model. Both Starships feature our new point source driver arrangement with a new and more efficient soft dome tweeter. They also feature our new proprietary four transmission line design (Quad TLTM). The four woofers and tweeter are implemented as a two-way design. In the Standard Starship we vent the four transmission lines through the bottom of the cabinet to produce more robust bass output. We outfit the cabinet with outriggers to create a small footprint and to maintain clearance between the TL vents and the floor. The drivers are covered with a driver cover and a magnetic grill.
The Starship SE, our new flagship, has several additional enhancements including much tighter matching of all components. We vent the transmission lines through the front baffle to reduce bass interaction with the room and to allow near wall placement. We cover the lower part of the baffle with a clip-on-grill and cover the drivers with a driver cover and a magnetic grill. The dual grills allow independent uncovering of the drivers as well as providing an upscale aesthetic that is worthy of our flagship. We support the cabinet with a one inch thick plinth that accommodates 1/4-20 threaded spikes.
The five loudspeakers in the Starship tower series deliver an exceptionally high level of performance, aesthetics, and value, even by the standards set by our critically acclaimed Windjammer and Enterprise. We invite you to listen.
